The Hawks, who lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games, have been among the most active teams in NBA trade talks.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, trading power forward John Collins is the Atlanta Hawks’ ongoing top priority, Additionally, De’Andre Hunter and Clint Capela are all on the trade block.
“The Hawks have been among the league’s most active teams in trade talks, eager to reduce their overload of long-term contracts and address their status as a middle-of-the-pack team mired in tax territory,” Stein wrote. “Trading Collins is Atlanta’s ongoing top priority, but there has clearly been more interest in Hunter and Capela.”
Collins has been on the trade block for several years now. The Hawks have discussed trades centered around the Wake Forest product so many times, but Collins still hasn’t been traded yet. It will be fascinating to see if this is the offseason Atlanta finally pulls the trigger on a Collins trade.

The 25-year-old Collins averaged 13.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists this past season for the Hawks while shooting 50.8% from the field, 29.2% from beyond the arc and 80.3% from the free-throw line. Atlanta signed Collins to a five-year, $125 million contract in August 2021.
All-Star point guard Trae Young seems to be the only untouchable player on the Hawks. Collins has been linked to the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz thus far. It’s possible the Hawks could talk to other teams about a Collins trade once free agency starts on June 30.

Collins has career averages of 15.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Hawks in 364 games. He was the 19th overall pick in the 2017 draft. The Utah native has good chemistry with Young in the pick-and-roll game, but that hasn’t stopped the Hawks from shopping Collins.
