Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal
Some Los Angeles Clippers fans won’t like this deal. They’ll have expected a bigger return for Paul George. They may need a reality check. George is aging. He’s injury prone. They could get packages that look different from this one, but in terms of market value, this is what they ought to expect.
It’s still a good return. Second-round picks are more valuable than ever. At this year’s deadline, we saw several teams acquire impact players by sending a bundle of them out. Meanwhile, Okoro is still young with enough potential to gamble on.
Still, the return is highlighted by Allen. He’s one of the better young big men in the NBA. Of course, the Clippers will have to figure out the situation between him and Ivica Zubac. Something tells us that they can’t play together.
The Clippers could bring Zubac off the bench or find a trade partner to acquire him. Allen would be a clear upgrade for Los Angles and the front office could use him as a defensive anchor next to Kawhi Leonard, or utilize him in a rebuild.
NBA TRADES, NEWS & RUMORS: Paul George, Los Angeles Clippers & Cleveland Cavaliers Updates
If the Clippers moved George, it’s difficult to envision them simply re-tooling around Leonard. It would likely mark the start of a rebuild, but teams have become hesitant to part with significant draft assets for older stars with a tough CBA being implemented. This may be an excellent route to take.
