The Golden State Warriors have already undergone a significant change this NBA offseason, parting ways with Jordan Poole in part of a trade with the Washington Wizards to acquire Chris Paul.
There is still a lot left for the Warriors to navigate this summer. A priority for the Warriors remains to re-sign Draymond Green to a new contract after deciding to opt out of his $27.6 million player option.
“We really want Draymond back,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said at his introductory press conference. “What he means in terms of this organization and this team, winning at the highest level, we feel like we have to have him.
Green believes he should get a $100 million contract from the Warriors. The four-time NBA champion becomes an unrestricted free agent on June 30.
The 33-year-old Green may sign a new three-year deal with the Warriors, according to NBA insider Jason Dumas. The four-time All-Star and one-time Defensive Player of the Year is seeking a contract that lines up with superstar point guard Stephen Curry’s in terms of length. Curry can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Draymond Green & Golden State Warriors Updates
The Warriors have won four rings in the Green-Curry-Klay Thompson era. Green has career averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 758 games with Golden State.
If the Warriors succeed in re-signing Green as expected, the priority will shift to upgrading the supporting cast around the team’s core. Adding Paul into the mix naturally will offer a different look, but more changes could take place.
“The rest of the roster going on down the line is a group that probably needs to be better about playing together and connecting, so that’s something we’ll look to solve for this offseason,” Dunleavy said. “By the way, that’s not only externally, that’s internally through working together and doing all that stuff.”
