12-time All-Star Chris Paul was playing basketball at his gym in Winston-Salem, North Carolina when his son told him he got traded by the Washington Wizards to the Golden State Warriors. The NBA legend’s son was also the person who told him the Phoenix Suns traded him to the Wizards in the Bradley Beal deal.

“I was at my gym here in Winston playing pickup — after the game — little Chris came up to me & told me [about the trade],” Paul said. “Whatever’s gonna give me an opportunity to win, I’m all for it.”

The Warriors plan to keep Paul after acquiring the point guard from the Wizards. He has a partially guaranteed contract for next season, but it looks like he’ll get his full $30.8 million.

The Warriors parted ways with shooting guard Jordan Poole to get Paul, who is friends with superstar point guard Stephen Curry.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul & Golden State Warriors Updates

Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists this past season for the Suns, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. The Los Angeles Clippers were interested in trading for Paul, while the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping the Wizards would waive the veteran so they could sign him as an unrestricted free agent.

Now, both LA teams will have to face Paul multiple times in the 2023-24 regular season since the Warriors, Clippers and Lakers are all in the same division.

Paul has never won a championship. It would be quite a story if he captures his first ring with the Warriors, who have won four titles in the Curry era. CP3 has career averages of 17.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists. He will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer one day.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul & Golden State Warriors Updates

Curry and Paul have already spoken since the trade. Warriors power forward Draymond Green becomes an unrestricted free agent on June 30, but Golden State is expected to re-sign the one-time Defensive Player of the Year.
