The Indiana Pacers contacted the Golden State Warriors about trading for forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Indiana has been scouring the market for starting forwards and could pursue Kyle Kuzma, Grant Williams and Harrison Barnes in free agency.
“Indiana has been scouring the market for starting forwards, contacting the Warriors about acquiring Jonathan Kuminga, sources said, and it looms as a potential free-agent destination for several veterans such as Harrison Barnes, Kyle Kuzma and Grant Williams,” Fischer wrote.
Kuzma and Barnes become unrestricted free agents on June 30, while Williams becomes a restricted free agent.
The Warriors aren’t shopping forward Kuminga, according to NBA insider Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Golden State drafted Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft.
“One of the exploratory conversations that surfaced, via ESPN, was a trade-up scenario involving Kuminga,” Slater wrote. “From my understanding, that was an inbound call from a team in the lottery that has registered regular interest in Kuminga dating back a year. Multiple team sources have been adamant that the Warriors aren’t shopping Kuminga around.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors & Indiana Pacers Updates
Kuminga appeared in 67 games for the Warriors this past season. He averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 52.5% from the field, 37.0% from beyond the arc and 65.2% from the free-throw line.
The Warriors lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games after winning the championship last year. Kuminga only played in 10 postseason games, averaging 3.4 points.
“But continued league-wide interest in his talent attached to an unknown place in Kerr’s rotation as he nears his third season has put his future in question,” Slater wrote. “Kuminga for a top 10 pick would be a mini draft night blockbuster and could make sense if the Warriors love someone up in, let’s say, the Pacers range — Anthony Black perhaps? — but would only further reset the youth movement.”
