The Golden State Warriors plan to keep Chris Paul after acquiring the point guard from the Washington Wizards, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and TNT.

Paul has a partially guaranteed contract for next season, but it looks like he’ll get his full $30.8 million.

The Warriors parted ways with shooting guard Jordan Poole to get Paul, who is friends with superstar point guard Stephen Curry.

Poole signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Warriors in October 2022. The extension kicks in next season. The Michigan product averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Warriors this past season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line.

However, Poole wasn’t able to carry over his regular-season success to the postseason. In 13 playoff games versus the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, Poole averaged 10.3 points while shooting an inefficient 34.1% overall and 25.4% from 3-point range.

The Warriors, who won the championship last season over the Boston Celtics in six games, lost to the Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games, with Poole averaging just 8.3 points in the series.

Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists this past season for the Suns, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. The Los Angeles Clippers were interested in trading for Paul, while the Lakers were hoping the Wizards would waive the veteran so they could sign him as an unrestricted free agent.

Now, both LA teams will have to face Paul multiple times in the regular season since the Warriors, Clippers and Lakers are all in the same division.

Paul has never won a championship. It would be quite a story if he captures his first ring with the Warriors.
