The Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are in strong talks on a Kristaps Porzingis-Malcolm Brogdon trade, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The Celtics would get Porzingis, the Wizards would receive Marcus Morris and draft picks and the Clippers would acquire Brogdon.

Porzingis has a player option worth $36 million for next season. The Celtics and Wizards are talking about a potential opt-in-and-trade deal. Porzingis averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Wizards in 2022-23. He shot 49.8% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 85.1% from the free-throw line.

Brogdon won the Sixth Man of the Year Award this past season for Boston. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 67 games while shooting 48.4% from the field, 44.4% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line. The 2016-17 Rookie of the Year with the Milwaukee Bucks, Brogdon signed a two-year, $85 million contract extension with the Indiana Pacers in October 2021. He’ll make $22.5 million next season.

Morris has been unhappy about his role with the Clippers, so he’s looking for a change of scenery. The veteran averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 boards and 1.8 assists in 2022-23 while shooting 42.6 from the floor, 36.4% from 3 and 78.2% from the free-throw line.

The Wizards missed the playoffs in 2023, while the Clippers lost in the first round and the Celtics lost in the Eastern Conference Finals. This potential three-team trade would help Boston get a star big man and assist Los Angeles in acquiring a quality point guard.

If this trade goes through, Chris Paul likely doesn’t get traded by the Wizards to the Clippers. Russell Westbrook also might not re-sign with the Clippers once unrestricted free agency starts on June 30.

This trade would affect a lot of players, that’s for certain.
