Following an ugly first-round exit in the NBA postseason, the Milwaukee Bucks are sure to be a busy team this offseason. Along with addressing the future of Khris Middleton, the front office will also be seeking upgrades that can get the team in a position to contend for championships again.
With the offseason underway now, analysts have begun tossing out possible targets for contenders like the Bucks to go after. Among the names mentioned for the 2021 champs is Indiana Pacers sharpshooter Buddy Hield.
From a fit perspective, Hield is the exact type of player the Bucks should go after. In order to maximize Giannis Antetokoumpo on the offensive end, they need all the floor spacing possible.
What better kick-out option for the two-time MVP than one of the NBA’s best high-volume shooters. Hield is coming off a season with the Pacers where he averaged close to 17 points and shot 42.5% from three on 8.5 attempts per game.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Buddy Hield, Milwaukee Bucks & Indiana Pacers Updates
While a trade like this makes a lot of sense on the court, it could be tricky for the Bucks to pull off. Mainly because they’ll have to find a way to match his $18.5 million salary for next season. The front office could package multiple contracts, but the end result could be having a thin bench moving forward.
One reason why the Bucks should consider a deal like this is because it helps them in both the short and long term. Hield is someone who could slide in right next to Jrue Holiday in the backcourt and be impactful on day one. Also, since his contract is in its final year, it gives the front office flexibility moving forward. This is important as the new CBA gets ready to begin.
