The Golden State Warriors tried to acquire point guard Chris Paul before the Phoenix Suns traded him to the Washington Wizards, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Paul is not expected to stay with the Wizards. The future Hall of Famer will either get traded or waived by Washington, who traded shooting guard Bradley Beal to the Suns. Thus far, Paul has been linked to the Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.

The 38-year-old Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists this past season while shooting 44.0% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line. The 12-time All-Star has a partially guaranteed contract for next season.

The Warriors, who lost to the Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games, have a new general manager. The franchise promoted Mike Dunleavy Jr. after Bob Myers stepped down. It will be interesting to see if Golden State finds a way to acquire Paul, who is friends with superstar point guard Stephen Curry.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns & Golden State Warriors Updates

Most people around the NBA believe Paul will sign with the Lakers to play with star small forward LeBron James if he gets waived by the Wizards. The Purple and Gold are not expected to trade for Paul, who is best friends with James.

“Paul is the type of maestro who could alleviate some of the offensive pressure on James to generate high-percentage looks late in games,” The Athletic’s Jovan Buha wrote. “Even with Paul nearing 40, it’s easy to envision the rhythm of a Paul-Davis pick-and-roll after seeing it for so many years in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Houston, Oklahoma City and Phoenix.”

The entire NBA world is waiting to see what is going to happen with Paul. It would be quite the story if the Wake Product goes back to the Clippers to play with two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and All-Star swingman Paul George or signs with the Lakers and finally gets to play with James.
