A former NBA exec is wondering what a possible trade between the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns would like featuring Bradley Beal.

John Hollinger, who used to be an exec with the Memphis Grizzlies, tweeted that the Suns could trade Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton to the Wizards for Beal, Monte Morris and Daniel Gafford.

The Wizards are in serious talks with the Suns and Miami Heat on a Beal trade, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. Beal has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he gets to pick his next team.

The Wizards have granted Beal and his representatives permission to speak with teams the three-time All-Star shooting guard has interest in being traded to.

Beal averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists this past season while shooting 50.6% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 84.2% from the free-throw line. The 29-year-old is one of the best shooters and scorers in the NBA.

The Suns are trying to trade Paul and Ayton. Phoenix’s new coach is Frank Vogel, who won the 2020 championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Walt Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Beal has career averages of 22.1 points, 4.1 boards and 4.3 assists. He has never gotten past the second round of the playoffs with the Wizards, who have a new president, Michael Winger. All signs point toward Beal getting traded this offseason and Washington embarking on a rebuild under Winger.

It’s possible Beal gets traded before the 2023 NBA Draft, which is on June 22. The entire NBA landscape would change if Beal gets moved this offseason. One NBA exec told NBA Analysis Network that Beal landing on the Suns would make the team dangerous, but he wouldn’t pick them to win it all next season.

“You need depth to win a title and they don’t have any now,” the exec said. “Getting Beal would make them even more top-heavy, which is fine in the regular season, but that won’t work in the playoffs.”
