The Atlanta Hawks have made point guard Trae Young untouchable in trade talks, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Young signed a five-year, $215.2 million rookie maximum extension with the Hawks in August 2021.
“The Hawks have told opposing teams Atlanta is open to conversations about all of its roster outside of Trae Young, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” Fischer wrote. “That does not mean the Hawks are actively shopping Dejounte Murray, whom the franchise sent three first-round picks to acquire from San Antonio last offseason, because Murray, in that respect, would cost quite a lot for Atlanta to part with. The Hawks are valuing their players in some form of tier structure, sources said, where Murray stands in his own realm after Young.”
Young averaged 26.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 10.2 assists this past season for the Hawks while shooting 42.9% from the floor, 33.5% from beyond the arc and 88.6% from the free-throw line. The two-time All-Stra was ninth in the NBA in total points, 10th in points per game, first in total assists and second in assists per game.

The Hawks lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. Young averaged 29.2 points, 3.7 boards and 10.2 assists in the six-game series.
A Texas native, Young has career averages of 25.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists. He is one of the best players in the NBA and the Hawks would be foolish to trade him.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had internal discussions about what a hypothetical trade offer for Young could look like this offseason, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic. Young, who was at Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals on May 22 between the Lakers and Denver Nuggets, is represented by Omar Wilkes of Klutch Sports Group, the same agency Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are with.
