Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal 

Porzingis’ fit with the Rockets is interesting. He works with anyone cornerstone player they’ve got, but some of the combinations are a little tricky. 

He could compensate for Alperen Sengun’s lack of rim protection. That’s an intriguing frontcourt, but where does it leave Jabari Smith Jr.? Alternatively, it’s easy to envision Porzingis and Smith Jr. giving Houston ample length and shooting, but where does that leave Sengun? 

Meanwhile, we haven’t even addressed their upcoming pick. If the Rockets draft Amen Thompson, they need a stretch big man like Porzingis. If they trade down, or out of the draft, he could be unnecessary.

None of that matters. The Rockets are trying to take a step forward next season. They should take the best player in this trade, and sort the fit out later. 

Porzingis should, at the very least, be on Houston’s wishlist.
