This week, the Denver Nuggets finished off the Miami Heat to win their first NBA title in franchise history. With the title secured, the focus now quickly becomes setting themselves up to contend again in 2024.
Luckily for their Nuggets, their core is under contract for the foreseeable future. However, they do have to focus on the cast around them. As the offseason gets ready to begin, potential trade targets for Denver are already being tossed around.
One scenario that was recently brought up is the Nuggets acquiring Alex Caruso from the Chicago Bulls. They have some decisions of their own to make, which could make the All-Defense guard available via trade.
Denver’s front office did a great job filling out the roster, but keeping them all together could be challenging. After a stellar run in the postseason, some believe that Bruce Brown could be on a different roster next season. He has a player option for just over six million, which he will likely decline. In the open market, Denver might not have the cap space to compete with what other teams might be willing to offer him.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Alex Caruso, Chicago Bulls & Denver Nuggets Updates
If Brown does walk in free agency, Caruso could be an instant replacement for him. He brings a lot of the same attributes and has playoff experience from his time with the LA Lakers. In the 67 games he played for the Bulls last year, Caruso averaged 5.6 PPG and 1.5 SPG while shooting league average from beyond the arc.
Everyone has seen the impact Caruso brings with his defense. His offensive game is limited, but Nikola Jokic is someone who could get the most out of him. With his elite playmaking, Caruso can be an off-ball cutter for the two-time MVP to set up with easy baskets.

Depending on what happens with Brown this summer, Caruso is certainly a player who can help the Nuggets get back to finals next season.
