Lakers Could Target Intriguing Warriors Guard In Free Agency

One NBA general manager believes the Los Angeles Lakers could look to steal combo guard Donte DiVincenzo from the Golden State Warriors this offseason.

Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports spoke to a GM who likes DiVincenzo’s potential fit with the Lakers.

“They could make a push for Donte DiVincenzo from the Warriors, depending on what they do with him,” the GM told Deveney. “He might command more than the tax MLE on the market, but he would be the right kind of guy, a shooter and ball-handler off the bench.”

DiVincenzo can become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if he declines his 2023-24 player option with the Warriors. Golden State lost to Los Angeles in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games after winning the title last year versus the Boston Celtics.

The 26-year-old DiVincenzo averaged 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the Warriors this season in 72 games. The NBA champion shot 43.5% from the field, 39.7% from beyond the arc and 81.7% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Donte DiVincenzo, Golden State Warriors & Los Angeles Lakers Updates

DiVincenzo made 150 3-pointers for the Warriors in 2022-23. Since the Lakers need more shooters around stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, DiVincenzo — who has career averages of 9.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists with the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings and Warriors — could fit well in Los Angeles.

The Lakers got swept by the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. James, 38, could retire this offseason, although most insiders believe the four-time MVP and four-time Finals MVP will be back next season.

Along with DiVincenzo, the Lakers have been linked to Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr., Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Bobby Portis and Naz Reid. Los Angeles is expected to re-sign Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura in restricted free agency, but D’Angelo Russell’s future is up in the air after the guard struggled against the Nuggets in the conference finals.
