After an incredible run throughout the postseason, things finally came to an end for the Miami Heat on Monday night. Down 3-1 to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals, they were unable to keep their season alive and force a sixth game.
With the finals over now, it’s time for the Miami Heat to focus on the offseason. Given that they’ve made multiple deep runs over the last four years, they’ll be eyeing any upgrades that can help get them over the hump.
Recently, a former NBA executive told Evan Massey of NBA Analysis Network that Russell Westbrook is a name that could be on the Heat’s radar come free agency. “There are going to be a few teams out there with interest in Russ. I think Miami will be very intrigued by adding a guard who can create and score. For Westbrook, I think the Heat are the perfect fit.”
Westbrook had a rough stint with the LA Lakers but managed to turn things around after signing with the Clippers following his buyout. He was big for them in the postseason, with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard on the sidelines with injuries. In five games against the Phoenix Suns, he averaged 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers & Miami Heat Updates
While the former MVP might be a fit for Miami with his attitude and playstyle, things might not be seamless on the court. Mainly because Westbrook is not much of a threat from beyond the arc.
The Heat already have a pair of non-three-point-shooting stars in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Throwing another one in the mix could lead to a clunky offense at times.

Following his run with the Clippers, a market is sure to form for Westbrook this summer. That being said, the Heat might be better off finding a point guard who can run the offense and help open up the floor.
