3 NBA Free Agency Targets Linked To Atlanta Hawks, Revealed

Atlanta Hawks, NBA Rumors

One NBA writer believes the Atlanta Hawks need to address the backup point guard position this offseason.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thinks the Hawks should target Milwaukee Bucks guard Jevon Carter, Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley and Denver Nuggets guard Reggie Jackson.

“Atlanta has quietly become one of the deepest teams in the NBA, with two potential All-Stars at guard, a load of wings after the trade for Saddiq Bey and a frontcourt that somehow still features John Collins,” Swartz wrote. “The Hawks can’t afford to be big spenders in free agency but could use a veteran point guard behind Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.

“Carter is the perfect fit, a tenacious defender who made 42.1 percent of his threes last season. Beverley can still hit shots and defend at a high level in limited minutes and Jackson carries 75 games of playoff experience. This roster probably needs a trade or two to consolidate talent and shed some future money, but getting a veteran point guard would help as well.”

Carter can become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if he declines his 2023-24 player option with the Bucks. He averaged 8.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season while shooting 42.3% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc and 81.6% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, both Beverley and Jackson will hit the open market this offseason. Beverley averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists for the Los Angeles Lakers and Bulls this season, while Jackson put up 10.2 points, 2.1 boards and 3.4 assists with the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets.

The Hawks have one of the best starting point guards in the NBA in Trae Young. The two-time All-Star averaged 26.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 10.2 assists this season while shooting 42.9% from the floor, 33.5% from beyond the arc and 88.6% from the free-throw line.
