Miami Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro is expected to play in Game 5 of the 2023 NBA Finals versus the Denver Nuggets, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Herro broke his right hand in the first round of the 2023 playoffs versus the Milwaukee Bucks and underwent surgery.

Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Heat during the regular season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 93.4% from the free-throw line. He was third on the team in points per game, trailing only All-Stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Herro has career postseason averages of 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He played in the 2020 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Walt Disney World bubble during his rookie season and averaged 14.7 points.

A Kentucky product, Herro told Ros Gold-Onwude of ESPN that he experienced both soreness and swelling in the right hand after shooting jumpers prior to Game 3. The Heat are down 3-1 to the Nuggets. They will have to mirror what the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers did by becoming the second team in NBA history to win the Finals after trailing 3-1.

The last time Herro spoke to reporters was after the Heat won the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. The former Sixth Man of the Year had a feeling Miami would reach the Finals after the team beat the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.

“After we won in Milwaukee, I had a feeling we’d be going back to the Finals,” Herro said. “It’s been a hell of a ride so far, just to be on the sideline. I’ve been on every road trip, been a part of everything thus far. Just being here with the team has been awesome, just to see the guys rally around each other. And it’s been good. I’m excited to have the opportunity to possibly play again this season.”
