Depending on what happens with James Harden this NBA offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers could be in the market for a star. If he does decide to walk, the team could target another high-scoring guard in the Eastern Conference.
With Joel Embiid coming off an MVP season, the 76ers are looking to maximize their window. They remain committed to chasing a championship as they parted with head coach Doc Rivers for Nick Nurse.
Recent reports suggest that if Harden does leave in free agency, Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine could be on their radar to be Embiid’s new running mate.
Even before their season came to a close, there were rumblings about the 10x All-Star having a legitimate interest in a reunion with the Houston Rockets. If that were to happen, there would be an immediate need for Philly to find another co-star to pair with Joel Embiid, so who’s to say they don’t end up calling the Chicago Bulls?
From a fit standpoint, LaVine makes a lot of sense for the Sixers. Similar to Harden, the Bulls star is an instant partner with Embiid in the pick-and-roll. His ability to score on all three levels would make their two-man game extremely tough to defend. On top of that, LaVine can also create his own offense and score in bunches, taking pressure off the All-Star center.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls & Philadelphia 76ers Updates
In 77 games last season, LaVine averaged 24.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. The two-time All-Star is also under contract for the next three seasons, giving the 76ers a pair of stars under contract long-term.
Losing Harden’s playmaking would create a void for Philly, but the group could fill it by committee. Tyrese Maxey showed flashes at point guard during Ben Simmons’ absence, and LaVine is capable of facilitating.

There is still no telling what Harden will do moving forward, but if he signs elsewhere, LaVine could be a good pivot for Daryl Morey and the 76ers.
