One NBA writer thinks the Memphis Grizzlies should try to trade for DeMar DeRozan if the Chicago Bulls make the All-Star available in trade talks this summer.

Jason Burgos of Sportsnaut believes DeRozan could help the Grizzlies both on the court and in the locker room.

“The Memphis Grizzlies attempted to make a big move at the NBA trade deadline in February, and Raptors star OG Anunoby was reportedly their top target,” Burgos wrote. “While they couldn’t get a deal done in the winter, they may be forced to be bold this summer. Not only because they were shockingly bounced from the first round of the playoff this year, but because they will lose All-Star Ja Morant for a notable amount of time due to an impending suspension for his latest head-scratching decision.

“DeMar DeRozan could be an excellent option to bring the team some extra playoff-proven scoring, and another much-needed adult in the locker room.”

DeRozan is one of the top players in the NBA. The six-time All-Star averaged 24.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Bulls this season while shooting 50.4% from the field, 32.4% from beyond the arc and 87.2% from the free-throw line.

A future Hall of Famer, DeRozan has career averages of 21.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists with the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs and Bulls. The Grizzlies need a veteran like DeRozan in their locker room who can teach the youngsters how to prepare and win in the playoffs.

Memphis lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks made the mistake of talking trash to Lakers legend LeBron James, something DeRozan would have likely not done if he were on the Grizzlies instead of Brooks.

As Burgos mentioned, Memphis superstar point guard Ja Morant is in trouble with the NBA again after showing a gun during an IG Live video. This is the second time Morant has done this. He was suspended for eight games in March after the first incident.
