After securing the third pick in the NBA Draft, many suspect that this could be the year the Portland Trail Blazers make some big changes. As of now, their goal is to try and package the pick in a deal that can bring in more win-now pieces to pair around Damian Lillard.
For years, Lillard has remained loyal to the Trail Blazers. However, the All-Star guard only has so many more years left at his peak. Now in his mid-30s, the writing might be on the wall that he’ll have to leave if he wants to compete for a championship.
If Lillard is made available, a good amount of teams in the league will be making calls. One team that was recently linked to him is the Chicago Bulls. Similar to the Blazers, they’ll be looking to make a big splash to get back into the postseason.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers & Chicago Bulls Updates
Recently, the people at Bleacher Report listed Lillard as a top trade target for the Bulls following their loss in the play-in tournament this season.
“The Bulls would have loads of defensive questions with a nucleus featuring Lillard, LaVine, DeRozan and Vucevic, but they could have the offensive firepower to overcome them. If any single trade gets Chicago into the championship race next season, it’d be putting every trade chip on the table and nabbing Lillard.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers & Chicago Bulls Updates
With Lonzo Ball out for all of next season, Chicago has a hole to fill at the point guard position. If they were able to pull off a Lillard trade, they’d have arguably the best offensive trio in the league with him, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan. There will be some holes to fill on the defensive end, but a move of this caliber certainly gets Chicago back in the mix in the Eastern Conference.
