One NBA writer is proposing that the Golden State Warriors acquire OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors this summer.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed that the Warriors trade Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins and a 2023 first-round pick to the Raptors for Anunoby and Thaddeus Young.
“The Warriors could be nearing the end of their dynasty, although a trade for another two-way wing would help prop the championship window open a little longer,” Swartz wrote. “Anunoby is perhaps the best wing defender in the NBA, joining a frontcourt with Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green that would get this defense back to an elite level. He also averaged 16.8 points and shot 38.7 percent from three while Young gives Golden State some additional frontcourt depth.
“The Raptors may find themselves with a major need at guard this summer with both Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. likely becoming free agents. Even if one is brought back, Poole’s scoring and playmaking will be needed for a Toronto offense that looked stuck in the mud for stretches this season. Rollins, 20, was the 44th overall pick last year and the Raptors also add the No. 19 overall selection in this month’s draft.”

Anunoby averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists this season for the Raptors while shooting 47.6% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 83.8% from the free-throw line. The Indiana product signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension with Toronto in December 2020.
The Raptors drafted Anunoby with the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The swingman has career averages of 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists and was part of the 2019 championship team.

Anunoby is eligible to sign an extension. The rising star will make $18.6 million in 2023-24 and has a player option worth $19.9 million for 2024-25. The Warriors, New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies tried to trade for Anunoby at the 2023 trade deadline, sources told NBA Analysis Network.
