Things might not have ended how they wanted, but the Sacramento Kings had a successful season in 2023. After ending their record-long playoff drought, they’ll be looking to make some upgrades this summer.
With most of their money tied up in their core, the Kings likely won’t be much of a player in free agency. That being said, they have the assets to improve the roster on the trade market. One of their biggest chips being the 24th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
During a recent breakdown of possible trade avenues for the Kings, Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso was mentioned as a target. The former champion was a hot name at the trade deadline and is sure to appear in rumors all summer.

After failing to make this postseason this year, the Bulls are a team that some believe could make big changes this summer. If they do decide to blow it up, Caruso will be a highly sought player on their roster.
Caruso doesn’t make much of an impact on offense but can be a real difference-maker on the other end of the floor. Despite coming off the bench for most of the year, the former Champion was named first-team All-Defense.
As far as fit goes, Caruso makes a lot of sense for the Kings. They already have offensive firepower with De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk. One area they could improve in is adding more reliable defenders.

Part of why the Kings were upset in the first round of the playoffs is because they failed to contain Steph Curry. Fox is an above-average defender but needs to conserve some energy to run the offense. If the Kings brought in a player like Caruso, they would have someone in their back pocket for big-time matchups like this.
As someone who understands what it takes to win a title, Caruso could be a great addition to an up-and-coming team like the Kings.
