During the Miami Heat’s Game 2 NBA Finals Media Day on June 3, a reporter asked Kyle Lowry if there is another guard-big combo he’s played against during his career that has the chemistry of Denver Nuggets stars Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.
Lowry went with San Antonio Spurs legends Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.
“Yeah, I can’t think of — I’m pretty old in this game right now,” Lowry said. “I played Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. Honestly, that’s a great combination that I got the opportunity to play against. Jamal and Jokic, they’re deadly because they both can score, pass the ball. They’re big targets, and they have a great feel for each other.
“But yeah, that combination, they’re very, very good.”

Duncan and Parker won four championships together on the Spurs. They were deadly in the pick-and-roll game. There are certainly similarities between the Duncan-Parker duo and the Jokic-Murray tandem. All four players have a high basketball IQ and play winning basketball.
Jokic and Murray are averaging a combined 57.4 points in the 2023 playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Heat. The Nuggets are three wins away from winning their first championship in franchise history.
“It’s first to four, no matter how you get it done,” Murray said. “Obviously, you want to take advantage of being at home. Love playing at home. But any game you can win, you take. So yeah, we’re looking forward to just winning every single game that we play.”

The Nuggets are 13-3 in the 2023 playoffs heading into Game 2 of the NBA Finals. They are undefeated at home.
“It’s huge because it’s never done before,” Jokic said. “We are going to leave some legacy if we do it. But I don’t know, are kids supposed to look up to me or whatever, I think they need to have their own path.”
