One NBA writer is proposing that the Golden State Warriors trade shooting guard Jordan Poole to the Utah Jazz.
Jared Koch of The Frozen Rope proposed that the Warriors send Poole to the Jazz for Collin Sexton, Kelly Olynyk and the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
“Poole’s struggles in the Golden State Warriors’ second-round series might just be enough for their front office to start taking calls on him,” Koch wrote. “Golden State is still in win-now mode, and sitting through Poole’s growing pains and inefficiencies we still see him battle with is something the team simply doesn’t have time for. Steph Curry’s gonna be 36 next season. Maximizing the final best years of his career has to be the biggest priority.
“A team that does have the time for Poole to fully develop? The Jazz. And, with Poole’s value being at an all-time low, the Jazz can buy low on a player who has high upside to potentially become the team’s scoring leader. Yes, he’s far from a perfect player, and at this point, his name tends to carry more of a negative connotation than a positive one around NBA fans. However, it’s a gamble Utah has positioned itself to seamlessly take.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jordan Poole, Golden State Warriors & Utah Jazz Updates
Poole averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Warriors this season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line. However, the Michigan product wasn’t able to carry over his regular-season success to the postseason.
In 13 playoff games versus the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, Poole averaged only 10.3 points while shooting an inefficient 34.1% overall and 25.4% from 3-point range. The Warriors, who won the championship last season over the Boston Celtics, lost to the Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals in six games, with Poole averaging just 8.3 points in the series.
