Every NBA team is in its own unique position. With that said, some are more unique than others.
Some teams are clearly contending. Their roster is old, and they’re low on draft capital. These teams are strictly concerned with the present.
Other teams are all-in on the future. Their key players are rookies and sophomores. Ideally, they’ve got as much draft capital as possible stockpiled.
Then, you’ve got the New Orleans Pelicans. They’re somewhere in between.
This roster is mostly young, and the Pelicans have plenty of draft capital. Yet, this team has win-now aspirations.
Could they trade for DeMar DeRozan this summer with those aspirations in mind?
