Usually, we’re talking about the fallout from a previous trade. If a trade involves picks, suddenly, one team is always watching another. Anything that’s bad for them is good for the opposing team.
That’s the relationship between the Houston Rockets and the Brooklyn Nets at the moment. The Rockets, whether outright or via swap, control the Nets’ draft through to 2027. These two teams are now intrinsically connected.
With that in mind, Cam Johnson’s impending restricted free agency is critical to both. The Rockets are widely expected to make Johnson a big offer.
If the Nets match it, it will destabilize their cap situation. If they don’t, the Rockets get Johnson.
