Some things are better in theory than they are in practice. Some NBA players are, too.

Oftentimes, a young player comes into the league with a theoretical skillset. The potential is enticing. Sometimes, the player never realizes. 

With that said, Mo Bamba of the Los Angeles Lakers has not yet met his potential. In theory, this is an elite rim protector who spaces the floor.

In practice, Bamba has mental lapses on defense and is an inconsistent shooter. 

Yet, the potential still remains. Teams will still be enticed by Bamba. If they can unlock him, they’ll have an extremely valuable player. 

Should the Dallas Mavericks acquire him this summer?
