The NBA offseason is quickly approaching and just the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets are left playing for all the marbles in the NBA Finals. It has been a fun season to watch, but for teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors, the hard work is just beginning. Could the two teams come together on a blockbuster trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns?

Towns has been mentioned in NBA rumors over the past few years. Over the past two years, many have thought that he could very well be traded. That hasn’t happened yet, but the rumors are still there entering this offseason.

SportsNaut’s Andrew Buller-Russ recently wrote an article on five potential trades that would involve the Timberwolves’ star big man. In one of those trades, they had Towns heading to Toronto to join the Raptors. Here is some of the brief reasoning they have for why the Raptors should pursue a star like Towns.

“The Raptors are a team that has gone stagnant since Kawhi Leonard left town. Having allowed the fourth-fewest points per game, the Raptors are still stout defensively, but they could use a scoring punch,” Buller-Russ wrote. “Perhaps swapping Spicy P for the offensive-minded Towns can help balance the scales in Toronto. Instead of having the inefficient Siakam be the team’s leading shot-taker with his career eFG% of .521, they’d have Towns and his .577 rate operating at a much higher level.”

What would a potential trade look like? They also had that covered with a potential trade idea. The package would involve Towns being moved to Toronto in exchange for Pascal Siakam and the No. 13 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

For the Timberwolves, this would clear the way for Rudy Gobert to be the main featured big man. They would add a big-time talent in Siakam, who could take on some of the scoring load left by Towns. Adding in the No. 13 pick would give Minnesota a chance to add another young talent to the roster moving forward.

On the other side of the deal, the Raptors get one of the most talented big men in the entire NBA. They would keep Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, and Scottie Barnes together and add a true No. 1 offensive option. It’s a move that could put them back into serious contention in the Eastern Conference.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves & Toronto Raptors Updates

Granted, this is simply a hypothetical trade idea, but it is one that makes sense. Karl-Anthony Towns will likely be available for trade discussions. At the very least, the Timberwolves will likely be open to listening to offers.

Should that be the case, the Raptors would be a very intriguing team to keep an eye on.
