Bob Myers is stepping down as president of basketball operations of the Golden State Warriors, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The two-time NBA Executive of the Year’s contract expires in late June.
“It’s just time,” Myers told ESPN.
The Warriors reached the NBA Finals six times during the Myers era, winning four championships. Stephen Curry won back-to-back MVPs in 2015 and 2016 and the Dubs won an NBA record 73 games during the 2015-16 season.
Myers has been with Golden State since 2011. He was a prominent player agent prior to joining the Warriors’ front office.

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Warriors in the Western Conference Semifinals in six games. Myers told ESPN he’s unsure what he plans on doing next. Golden State could have a payroll and luxury tax that may approach a historic $500 million in 2023-2024.
“Myers, 48, said he’s unsure of his future professional pathway, but should he someday decide to return to the team side, he’s expected to become one of the most pursued executives in modern North American professional sports history,” Wojnarowski wrote. “Myers’ blend of leadership, talent evaluation and the respect that he commands at every level of the industry — ownership, front office, coaches, players and agents — makes him a uniquely appealing part of a potential ownership group or front office.”

Warriors power forward Draymond Green can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his player option for next season. Meanwhile, shooting guard Klay Thompson only has one year left on his deal.
“In his dozen years with the Warriors, Myers, who grew up in the Bay Area as a fan of the franchise and went on to play basketball at UCLA, built a Hall of Fame resume,” Wojnarowski wrote. “He enjoyed strong working and personal relationships with the key members of the Warriors’ dynasty — Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and coach Steve Kerr. He let each of them know in recent days that there was a real possibility of him stepping away from the job, sources said.”
