Miami Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro could play in the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, there remains significant optimism that Herro will suit up in the NBA Finals. The Kentucky product broke his right hand in the first round of the playoffs versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

Herro underwent surgery and was cleared to resume basketball activities a week ago.

“I’m told there remains significant optimism that Herro will return in the Finals, though there is still no definitive target date and his status will be determined by the medical and coaching staff, who will have him under close observation in the coming days,” Charania wrote. “Herro was cleared to resume basketball activities a week ago and has been ramping up his work under close monitoring ever since. We’ll keep you informed on his status in the coming days.”

Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Heat during the regular season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 93.4% from the free-throw line. The 23-year-old was third on the team in points per game, trailing only All-Stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat defeated the Boston Celtics in seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals for the second time in four years. Miami lost to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 Finals in six games at the Walt Disney World bubble.

Butler and Co. will have their hands full with Nuggets superstar big man Nikola Jokic, who averaged a triple-double during the Western Conference playoffs. The Heat star said after Game 7 against the Nuggets that he and his teammates will lock in on the Nuggets after midnight.

“I’ve got two days to figure that out. We have two days to figure that out before Game 1,” Butler said. “So we will lock in on them. But I think we get to enjoy this until midnight, which is right around the corner, and then it’s time to lock in on the Nuggets. So I’ll answer that for you when I talk to you on, what, Wednesday I think.”
