Every rebuilding team in the NBA has a plan to end their rebuilding process. It’s simply a matter of time.
When does that time come? It can be a difficult moment to pinpoint. Sometimes, that moment comes organically. A surprise 35-win season could motivate a team to push all in and make a win-now move.
Alternatively, that timeline can be artificially imposed. For example, if a team drafts a player with undisputed franchise player potential, they may decide to push the chips in a little sooner than expected.
With that in mind, the San Antonio Spurs will have some decisions to make this summer.
They’ll be selecting Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. Could the Spurs start making win-now moves all of a sudden?
If so, could they acquire Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics this summer?
