Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

It’s a fair question. Murray is similar to Westbrook in that he’s a poor shooter and a dynamic playmaker. 

Yet, there are some key distinctions. For starters, Murray is a better shooter than Westbrook. He’s not a plus from beyond the arc, but he’s not the same type of liability, either. 

Still, and perhaps more importantly, this is not the same LeBron James that was paired with Westbrook. James is aging. By all accounts, he’s ready to transition into a smaller role.

Murray could take on primary playmaking responsibilities. This may not be the cleanest fit, but if James is serious about taking a backseat, it could be a good one.

Meanwhile, Murray and Anthony Davis should combine to make for one of the best inside/outside defensive tandems in the NBA.
