One NBA insider is reporting that the Dallas Mavericks would love to acquire big man Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers to pair him next to superstar Luka Doncic.
Colin Cowherd said on May 23 he heard at the February trade deadline that the Mavericks have their eyes on Davis.
“I heard at the trading deadline Dallas has their eye on Anthony Davis,” Cowherd said. “And they think LeBron still has a soft spot for Kyrie Irving. I think the Lakers and Mavericks, you will hear in the next month something. I really believe that. And I think you have to take the phone call and listen.”
The Lakers got swept by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. Davis averaged 26.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in the series while shooting 49.3% from the field and 87.5% from beyond the arc. However, he got outplayed by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who averaged 27.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 11.8 assists.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic & Dallas Mavericks Updates
AD signed a five-year, $190 million contract with the Lakers in December 2020. The deal includes an early termination option in 2024 and will be fully up in 2025. Davis, 30, has the same agent (Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group) as LeBron James, who may retire this offseason.
Kyrie Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. The All-Star point guard has been heavily linked to the Lakers due to his relationship with James. The Lakers and Mavericks could pull off a sign-and-trade deal involving Davis and Irving, but Los Angeles’ future will be tied to what James does.

If LeBron retires, the Lakers could either build the team around Davis or enter a rebuild and trade “The Brow.”
James, 38, has a torn tendon in his right foot. “The King” may require surgery this summer since two doctors told him to undergo surgery in February when he got hurt versus the Mavericks in Dallas.
