Should the Boston Celtics fire Joe Mazzulla after this NBA season and hire former Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse?
NBA Twitter is running rampant begging the Celtics to hire Nurse and fire Mazzulla. Boston is down 3-0 to Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals despite having home-court advantage in the series.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN believes the Celtics could fire Mazzulla after one season given how the Eastern Conference Finals have gone thus far. Nurse, who was fired by the Raptors, has garnered interest from the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and Philadelphia 76ers.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Nick Nurse & Boston Celtics Updates
Nurse led the Raptors to the 2019 championship over the Golden State Warriors in six games. He went 227-163 with Toronto in the regular season and 25-16 in the playoffs. Nurse won the 2019-20 Coach of the Year Award and is regarded as one of the brightest offensive minds in the NBA.
The Celtics have a talented roster, led by All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Nurse could potentially unlock Boston’s offense and help Tatum and Brown win a championship. Thus far, Nurse hasn’t been linked to the Celtics since Mazzulla is still with the team, but that could change once the conference finals end.
Nurse coached two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and All-Star Kyle Lowry on the Raptors, so he knows how to work with stars. It will be fascinating to see where the Iowa native lands after a strong five-year run in Toronto.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Nick Nurse & Boston Celtics Updates
No team in NBA history has erased a 3-0 series deficit in the playoffs, so the Heat will likely win this series versus the Celtics to advance to the NBA Finals, where they will face Nikola and the Denver Nuggets. Boston has looked like a shell of itself versus Miami and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN believes the Celtics players “never got over” Ime Udoka being let go.
