Sometimes, they’re necessary. When you can only have one or the other – but not both – you’ve got to choose which one you need the most.
They may have a quality player on their team that they’d have to move in order to fill a pressing need. That can lead to a difficult decision.
For example, look at the Cleveland Cavaliers. This team needs a wing. Unfortunately, they don’t have much to trade.
With that said, if they were willing to move one of their star guards, they could expand their options.
