Chicago Bulls starting point guard Lonzo Ball is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season after undergoing a third surgery on his left knee, which is why one NBA writer believes Golden State Warriors guard Jordan Poole could be a good fit in the Windy City.

Jack Simone of Bulls Wire listed Poole as a potential offseason trade target for the Bulls, who missed the playoffs this year after making it in 2022.

“Whether or not Chicago would be interested in Poole is a different story, but his shooting would undoubtedly help their offense,” Simone wrote. “No matter how inconsistent he may be at times. A deal would probably see some combination of Ball, Caruso, and Williams sent to Golden State. The Bulls may even have to give up some sort of picks in a deal. But again, while his value may be low, Poole is still only 23 years old. There’s plenty of potential there.”

Poole is a talented scorer. The Michigan product averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Warriors this season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line. However, Poole wasn’t able to carry over his regular-season success to the playoffs.

In 13 postseason games versus the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 postseason, Poole averaged just 10.3 points while shooting an inefficient 34.1% overall and 25.4% from 3-point range. The Warriors, who won the championship last season over the Boston Celtics, lost to the Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals in six games, with Poole averaging only 8.3 points in the series.

Poole signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Warriors in October 2022. The lucrative extension kicks in next season. The Bulls’ roster is headlined by All-Stars DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.

Poole could be a good fit next to the three veterans since he’s a capable scorer and shooter. It will be interesting to see if Chicago calls Golden State this summer about a potential Poole trade.
