After their Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers are now gearing up for the NBA offseason. They’ve already begun making moves as they parted ways with head coach Doc Rivers after just three seasons.

Atop the priority list for the 76ers is free agency. They have multiple free agents on the roster, including James Harden who decided to opt out of his player option. One of the smaller names they also have to make a decision on is Georges Niang.

Niang joined the Sixers last season and has been a valuable piece with his three-point shooting. During his time with the 76ers, he’s averaged 8.7 points while shooting 40.2% from beyond the arc.

During his final media availability of the year, Niang talked about his impending free agency. He doesn’t know what’s next for him but is very open to the idea of returning to Philly this summer.

“Obviously, I love it here in Philly,” Niang said. “Like I said, I haven’t really wrapped my head around everything, but I really enjoyed being here and the guys, the camaraderie, the organization, it’s been amazing.”

From a fit perspective, Niang still makes a lot of sense for the 76ers. He is a reliable kick-out option, making him an ideal complement to Joel Embiid and James Harden. His main weakness, however, comes on the defensive end.

At this point in the offseason, it is still unclear how Philly plans to attack free agency. Everything starts with Harden, and the rest of the dominos will fall from there.

Overall, bringing back Niang wouldn’t be a bad move for the Sixers. He has thrived in their system and understands his role playing alongside multiple star talents. It will mainly come down to the price tag. The Sixers might be limited in what they can offer Niang, while other teams might offer him a decent contract because of his three-point efficiency.
