A major topic among NBA fans and analysts is which star is going to be next to ask out. Following an abysmal end to the regular season, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has become a more common name mentioned in such debates.
Two years ago, Doncic single-handedly led the Mavericks to the conference finals. A year later, he finds himself out of the postseason completely.
The front office went all in on star power at the trade deadline, but it did not work in their favor. Making the move for Kyrie Irving left them depleted in other areas, and it led to them to slide in the standings.
While talking about the idea of Doncic requesting a trade from Dallas, John Hollinger of The Athletic cited two teams to watch if the All-Star point guard does become available.
“With my spies telling me that Utah in particular is keeping a very interested eye on Doncic situation, even the [Brooklyn] Nets’ kitchen-sink offer for Doncic — the four firsts from [the] Phoenix [Suns] and one from [the Philadelphia 76ers], plus whatever matching salary not named Bridges is needed to make the deal work — likely falls massively short,” he said.
