While the New York Knicks are on the verge of being knocked out of the NBA Playoffs by the Miami Heat, there is no question that they have put together a surprising and successful season. Stephen A. Smith and company have been ecstatic with how the team has improved and the future could not be brighter. Perhaps, this offseason will come with another blockbuster trade to improve the team, with Karl-Anthony Towns being an option that many are speculating about in the NBA rumors mill.

Last offseason, the Knicks went out and finally brought in a true point guard in Jalen Brunson. That move alone was a big part of the success that the franchise had this season.

In order to take the next step, New York will need to get aggressive. Pulling off a blockbuster trade for a player like Towns would be the kind of step.

Smith, who is very well known as a massive diehard Knicks’ fan, believes that the team should pursue Towns and be willing to move Julius Randle to make a deal happen.

“I think [the Knicks] should trade [Julius Randle]. … I’d rather have Karl-Anthony Towns than Julius Randle.”

During the 2022-23 NBA season with the Knicks, Randle ended up averaging 25.1 points per game to go along with 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He shot 46 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 34.3 percent of his three-point attempts. Those numbers show how good Randle can be, but there were times where his interest levels dipped to a scary low.

On the other side of this idea, Towns is coming off of another great year for the Timberwolves. He averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. Towns knocked down 49.5 percent of his shots and 36.6 percent of his three-point attempts.

It will be interesting to see what the Knicks do this offseason. They have quite a few pieces to make a move and a great core put together. Maybe a move for Karl-Anthony Towns could be on the horizon, but if not, expect to hear the Knicks connected to a ton of NBA rumors.
