NBA teams are always in the middle of a balancing act. How much should we commit to the present at the expense of the future? Should we move assets? That’s one balance teams have to strike.
They also need to weigh the pros and cons of players. For example, what’s more valuable: shot creation, or defensive versatility?
Right now, the Knicks need to address these needs on the wing, with RJ Barrett not taking the next step in his development.
For example, Julius Randle can create his own shot. On the other hand, he’s not an outstanding defender. By contrast, Jerami Grant can guard multiple positions, but he can’t create his own looks quite as well as Randle.
With the way the Knicks’ series against the Miami Heat has gone, it’s clear they need to make an upgrade on the wing defensively.
Could the two team up on the Knicks this summer?
