The New York Knicks continue to benefit from the savvy midseason trade acquisition of Josh Hart. He will need to be re-signed to a new contract during the NBA offseason.

With the Knicks, Hart averaged 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 25 regular season games. His versatility and hustle have provided a needed boost to the Knicks during their postseason run.

Are the Knicks going to retain Hart? According to Marc Stein, it’s considered “inevitable” that Hart re-signs with the Knicks in free agency.

“New York’s Josh Hart is likewise generating no shortage of chatter as he approaches free agency with his repeated contributions to the Knicks’ playoff run. However …I have yet to encounter a single team that believes Hart will be gettable.

“The CAA-repped swingman’s eventual deal to re-sign with the Knicks and a front office helmed by CAA alumnus Leon Rose is more often referred to be rivals as inevitable.”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Josh Hart & New York Knicks Updates

The Knicks have continued to build in the right direction, starting with the offseason addition of Jalen Brunson — Hart’s ex-Villanova teammate. The two have been integral in helping New York to establish a winning culture further.

In an interview with Marc Spears of ESPN’s Andscape, Hart has previously expressed what sounds to be a desire to re-sign with the Knicks, with the goal to make New York a home for his family.

“I want bigger things for my wife and myself,” Hart said. “Just find a home somewhere where we are valued and really like living there. And I think that can be New York. I would love for it to be New York and hopefully the organization feels the same way.

“Coming up, this contract is hopefully my biggest one, one where I’m making sure my family’s fully taken care of. So, I’ve also got to take that into account, too.”

Hart’s $12.9 million player option will likely be declined in the offseason. He will have little issue earning more on a new contract, with the Knicks likely being the team to give it to him.
