Not today. Now, point guards are frequently responsible for scoring the ball. Is the point guard dead? We wouldn’t go that far.
A primary ball-handler can be a score-first player, but they still need to have a feel for the game. They need to know when to feed the hot hand, and when to call their own number.
Does Kevin Porter Jr. of the Houston Rockets have those traits? It’s debatable.
Still, if the Rockets went in a different direction at the point guard spot this summer, we wouldn’t blame them.
