With that said, let’s take a moment to congratulate Embiid. This is the NBA’s 2022-23 MVP.
For much of the year, he wasn’t necessarily going to take home that prize. Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets appeared likely to win his third straight MVP. Some interesting debates arose in the process.
On the one hand, Jokic had a case. The majority of the advanced metrics paint him as the best player in the league – comfortably. It’s hard to argue with that.
It’s not impossible. Jokic is a known defensive liability. By contrast, Embiid is one of the best two-way payers in the NBA. In the end, that seemed to sway voters.

The Knicks would surely gladly send a haul to acquire Embiid. Without having to give up Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, or Julius Randle, it’s all the better.
