Why would the Raptors want a collection of draft capital in exchange for Anunoby, when the odds of drafting a player as good as Anunoby are so low? 

After all, there’s a conundrum that you create when you acquire picks from a team. Now, they’ve got no incentive to lose in those seasons.

The Raptors’ front office will work to give you the worst pick they can. Still, there are other benefits.

You could hit on an even bigger steal than Anunoby. More broadly, stockpiling first-round picks gives a franchise increased flexibility.
