From 2015 to 2017, Isaiah Thomas was one of the top guards in the NBA. He took his game to new heights with the Boston Celtics, where he earned All-Star and All-NBA honors. However, his career quickly derailed after that.
Injuries caused Thomas to miss a lot of time, and from there, he was never the player he was in Boston. This resulted in him bouncing all around the league and never being able to find a long-term spot on a roster.
Despite how things have played out the last couple of years, Thomas has not given up his dream of returning to the league. He recently opened up about his health and feels like he is in great shape to make a comeback.
“I’m 100% back, I’m not gonna compare what I was 5 years ago when I was in Boston but I feel that same way…. Anything that’s needed I’m willing to do, I love the game of basketball, I want to continue my career in the NBA”
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Isaiah Thomas & Free Agency Updates
Overall, it has not been long since Thomas was on an NBA roster. During the 2021-22 season, he suited up for the LA Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets. His longest stretch came with the Hornets, which lasted a total of 17 games. In that stretch, he averaged 8.3 points and 1.4 assists per game.
Based on how recent years have gone, it looks like Thomas is fighting an uphill battle. That being said, if he is in great shape, he might be able to earn another contract.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Isaiah Thomas & Free Agency Updates
Teams are always looking for veteran leadership and a scoring punch, and Thomas can provide that. The issues are with the other end of the floor. Standing at 5-foot-9, he is a guard who can easily be targeted by opposing offenses. Only time will tell if a team will be willing to take another flier on the former All-Star.
