Sometimes, experiments work. Other times, they fail spectacularly. The same holds true in the NBA. Some teams run experimental lineups.
They don’t conform to what we expect from an NBA team. It can succeed, and it can fail. For example, take the Cleveland Cavaliers. This team ran a twin towers lineup this season.
To be fair, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley made for a formidable defensive duo. In the playoffs, they fell short. The Cavaliers lacked the pacing and the spacing to keep up with the New York Knicks.
Worst of all, they were getting worked on the boards by Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson. What was supposed to be a clear strength for the Cavaliers ended up being a weakness.
This summer, they may opt to trade Allen. He is the most logical to be on the move in the event of making a substantial trade in the offseason.
Could they flip him for Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers in a sign-and-trade scenario?
