Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
When the Hornets signed Hayward, they must have hoped for more than this. It is what it is. At this point, Hayward doesn’t produce like a player who will net them an unprotected first.
The Hornets would do well to receive any assets for him. Meanwhile, a pick swap is still valuable. This deal enhances an asset the Hornets already have. That counts.
Finally, Rose would be a good mentor for the young LaMelo Ball. This is the youngest MVP in NBA history. He can teach Ball what it means to be a star point guard in this league.
Moreover, his contract is expiring after this year too. It’s likely time for the Hornets to just take advantage of the financial flexibility they can create for another team and get compensated for it.
