3 Bold NBA Trade Scenarios To Shake Up The League

NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The NBA playoffs are underway. With that in mind, some fans will wonder why we’re talking about potential off-season trades. Counterpoint: Why wouldn’t we be? ‘

It’s always trade season. Moreover, as teams start to get knocked out, speculation grows louder. We already have some idea of who could be in the trade market this summer. Some of those players will be superstars. We don’t know exactly who will be moved yet. This is the National Basketball Association: anything can happen.

Here are three deals involving superstars that we’d like to see this summer.

Brooklyn Nets Land Damian Lillard

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: F/C Ben Simmons, G/F Cam Thomas, 2025 First-Round Pick (PHX via BKN), 2027 First-Round Pick (PHI via BKN), 2027 First-Round Pick (PHX via BKN), 2029 First-Round Pick (DAL via BKN), 2030 First-Round Pick (BKN)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Damian Lillard

Why yes, you’re right. That’s an awful lot of draft capital. For this deal to work, it would have to be. The Nets are sending out some of these picks to acquire Lillard. On the other hand, they’re sending out a few more as a Ben Simmons tax.

It’s worth their while. Do you notice anything about those picks? None of them belong to the Nets. Given that they owe their own picks to the Houston Rockets for the immediate future, the Nets can’t take. They might as well go all-in on a star.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers & Brooklyn Nets Updates

Meanwhile, the Blazers might as well take Simmons’ contract if it’s coming with five unprotected first-round picks. They won’t need that salary slot for a couple of years, as they’ll be undergoing a lengthy rebuild. On the other hand, the next deal has a team aiming to bring their rebuild to an end.

Houston Rockets Land Jaylen Brown; Pascal Siakam To Boston Celtics

Toronto Raptors Receive: G/F Kevin Porter Jr., C Alperen Sengun, 2023 First-Round Pick (HOU), 2026 First-Round Pick (BKN via HOU), 2027 First-Round Pick (Swap – BKN or HOU)
Boston Celtics Receive: F/C Pascal Siakam
Houston Rockets Receive: G/F Jaylen Brown

Obviously, the Rockets are the aforementioned team. With that said, they wouldn’t do this deal under just any circumstance. Firstly, if their pick lands in the top 2, they shouldn’t move it. The Rockets would obviously prioritize Victor Wembanyama over Brown, and they should probably even select Scoot Henderson if they land the second-overall pick.

If their pick moves outside of the top-2, nothing is likely to be off the table. With that said, if certain rumors are a reunion with another superstar hold true, this deal becomes even more appealing for the Rockets.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jaylen Brown, Pascal Siakam, Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics & Toronto Raptors Updates

If they add James Harden and Jaylen Brown this summer, the Rockets should surge up the standings. Meanwhile, the Celtics only do this if Brown truly wants to leave Boston. The Raptors should probably look into rebuilding measures no matter what they’re doing this summer.

New York Knicks Land Zion Williamson

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, G Derrick Rose, F Obi Toppin, 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2030 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: F Zion Williamson

Here, the Pelicans are giving up on Zion Williamson. Specifically, they’re giving up on his body. It would be hard to blame them. Williamson seems to get hurt on an annual basis. It’s hard to be sure that he’ll ever be able to get his body right.

With that in mind, the Knicks are taking a massive risk here. Moreover, Williamson plays their best player’s position. Are we sure he can co-exist with Julius Randle?

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zion Williamson, New Orleans Pelicans & New York Knicks Updates

Sure. It’s a position less NBA. Play Williamson at the five. The defense will suffer, but offensively, the Knicks could be unstoppable if Williamson can stay healthy. If everything clicks, they won’t be in any trade rumors next summer. It’s also an option to move Randle, too.
