The NBA is a positionless league. It’s been trending in that direction for some time, and now, it’s here.
That impacts the way we look at roster construction. Before, teams wouldn’t trade for a player if they already had the right guy at their position.
Now, they’ll ask themselves whether it can work. For example, look at Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors.
At 6’9 and with strong ball-handling chops, nobody would have played him at the 5 in years past. He would have been a 4, or even a 3 by virtue of his size and skill set.
Yet, Siakam played ample minutes at the 5 for the Raptors last season. It looked viable. In today’s league, there are more possibilities than ever before.
Could the New York Knicks possibly trade for Siakam this summer?
