Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
Let’s say Kuzma is a good candidate to be the third option on a contender. That doesn’t do much for the Wizards.
After all, they don’t have anyone who’s suited to be the first option on a contender. Bradley Beal is an immensely talented scorer, but by now, it’s apparent that he’s not reaching that exceedingly high bar.
With that in mind, many would suggest that the Wizards should rebuild. Frankly, they probably should. Still, even if they refuse to, they should at least retool.
Flipping Kuzma for an unprotected first-round pick helps them do so. Meanwhile, Beasley’s movement shooting, and athleticism ought to be useful to this club.

Whichever direction the Wizards choose, this is good asset management. Hopefully, they don’t end up wanting Kuzma back in time.
